Welcome to the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) department at the University of Baltistan, Skardu. MLT is a branch of medicine dealing with laboratory analyses used in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of disease as well as in the maintenance of health. M LT is one of the most rapidly expanding health care fields. The fact is, the practice of modern medicine would be impossible without the tests performed in the laboratory. As a medical laboratory technician, you will play an increasingly important role in health care delivery. The MLT Program provides extensive training, including a clinical internship with supervised work experience. This qualifies graduates to run clinical tests required by physicians to make life-affecting decisions inpatient care.
A career in Medical Technology can be challenging and rewarding. As a Medical Technology student, you will be given an educational background from faculty members that provide you with methods for the evaluation of new procedures and instruments. Medical Laboratory professionals play a critical role in collecting the information needed to give the best care to an ill or injured patient. Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) play a pivotal role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by performing laboratory tests of tissue, blood, urine, and other body fluid samples. As a Medical Technologist, you may gain great personal satisfaction in knowing that you have a key role in improving the quality and productivity of human life.
The volume of laboratory tests continues to increase with both population growth and the development of new types of tests. Rapid job growth, excellent job opportunities, and exciting careers await students who decide to major in Medical Laboratory Sciences. Medical Laboratory professionals can be found working in a number of different settings from doctor’s offices to hospitals, research labs to public health centers. It is a growing field and offers a wide range of employment opportunities in the areas of clinical analysis, public health, industry, higher education, health care administration, and research.
