Semester Rules & Academic Regulations
Comprehensive academic policies governing semester operations, assessment, and student progression
Semester Structure
- Academic year consists of two regular semesters: Fall (September-December) and Spring (February-May)
- Each semester spans 16-18 weeks including teaching, examinations, and breaks
- Summer semester (6-8 weeks) offered for remedial/elective courses
- Minimum 15 credit hours per semester for full-time students
Attendance Policy
- Minimum 75% attendance required in each course for exam eligibility
- Students with 65-75% attendance may appear with penalty after approval
- Below 65% attendance results in course repetition
- Medical emergencies require documented proof within 7 days
Assessment & Grading
- Continuous assessment: 40% (Assignments, quizzes, presentations, mid-term)
- Final examination: 60% of total grade
- Grading Scale: A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), F (Below 60)
- CGPA required for graduation: Minimum 2.5/4.0
Examination Rules
- Mid-term examinations: Week 8-9 of semester
- Final examinations: Week 17-18 of semester
- Unfair means during exam leads to cancellation and disciplinary action
- Re-sit examinations available for failed courses (with fee)
Course Registration
- Course registration within first two weeks of semester
- Late registration allowed with penalty fee up to one week
- Course withdrawal within first eight weeks (W grade)
- Maximum credit limit: 21 credit hours per semester
Promotion & Progression
- Minimum 2.0 CGPA required for promotion to next semester
- Probation status for CGPA between 1.7-2.0 for one semester
- Expulsion if CGPA remains below 1.7 after probation period
- Maximum duration for BS degree: 7 years, MS/MPhil: 4 years
